Dalworthington Gardens is a small city within Tarrant County in the state of Texas. The city’s name is a portmanteau of "Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington," the three main cities of the metropolitan statistical area where it is located.
Originally part of a national subsistence homesteading project during the Great Depression era, Dalworthington Gardens was founded in 1934 to allow families to have better lives by giving them part-time industrial jobs and the means to perform self-sufficient farming.
At present, Dalworthington Gardens is the only subsistence homestead project existing as an autonomous settlement in Texas. The city is known for its quaint, rural atmosphere, with many of the residents engaged in gardening, horse raising, and animal husbandry.
