The homeowner contacted us to perform an intensive restoration on two highly valued textiles: a large oriental area rug and a coordinating long hallway runner rug. Both pieces were situated in high-traffic zones of the home and had sustained significant wear over time. The rugs exhibited heavy to moderate soil traffic lanes, alongside embedded pet stains and stubborn organic odours. Structurally, the textiles showed signs of nap distortion from compressed heavy furniture, areas of localized fading, and a frayed serged edge along the runner. The customer required an expert, multi-stage deep cleaning and conditioning treatment to extract deep contaminants, neutralise odours, and restore the natural lay of the pile.
We delivered an advanced in-plant rug cleaning and structural care process- Fibre Care & Pre-Treatment: Inspected the intricate floral patterns and tested dye stability. Applied a specialised, enzyme-rich pre-treatment specifically formulated to break down crystallized pet urine salts and neutralise deep-set odours at the backing level. Counter-Rotational Deep Washing: Utilised specialized rug-washing machinery with soft counter-rotational brushes to loosen deeply embedded traffic soils, gently lifting the distorted pile without accelerating wear on the faded or worn areas. Sub-Surface Flushing: Executed a high-volume, low-pressure flush to completely rinse away suspended particulate soils, organic pet waste, and cleaning residues from the core of the fibres. Nap Realignment & Specialty Drying: Hand-groomed the oriental rug and runner nap back to its uniform direction to counteract the nap distortion. The rugs were then transferred to our climate-controlled drying tower to ensure rapid, even drying. Serging Assessment: Inspected the frayed serged edges to stabilise loose yarns, preventing further unravelling along the perimeter of the runner.
