The customer contacted our professional cleaning service because their geometric block-patterned area rug was showing significant signs of wear, surface matting, and localised structural damage from placement in a highly utilised living space. The textile had accumulated a combination of heavy-to-moderate traffic soils and general household dust that dulled its original earthy colour tones. Additionally, because a heavy marble-top coffee table sat directly on the rug, it had developed deep, compressed furniture marks and localized nap distortion where the wood and metal legs flattened the pile. Compounding these issues, the rug exhibited several pulled fibres across the geometric squares and a frayed serged edge along its perimeter border, leaving the piece looking worn, unkempt, and requiring an industrial-grade restoration treatment.
To address these conditions and completely rejuvenate the textile, our team executed an intensive in-plant cleaning and fibre-grooming protocol, starting with an extensive dry-soil dusting to remove deeply embedded gritty particulates from the base of the backing before any moisture was introduced. We then treated the rug with a gentle immersion wash using a fibre-safe shampoo coupled with counter-rotational brushes, which effectively suspended traffic soils and began the process of lifting the flattened, distorted nap without exacerbating the frayed serging. To safely resolve the stubborn furniture marks, our technicians carefully steam-conditioned the compressed areas to swell the crushed pile fibres back to their original height, followed by a meticulous high-volume, sub-surface flushing to extract all suspended residues and dirt. Finally, we hand-trimmed the loose pulled fibres to seamlessly blend with the surrounding pile, inspected the frayed serged edges to prevent future unravelling, and hand-groomed the entire surface nap to a uniform direction inside our climate-controlled drying tower for a completely restored and plush finish.
