The customer contacted our professional rug care facility because their high-value traditional Persian area rug was exhibiting a combination of heavy-to-moderate traffic soils, direct organic contamination, and severe structural flattening from long-term placement in a prominent living space. Sited in a high-utilisation zone of the property, daily foot traffic had driven abrasive atmospheric dust and gritty tracking soils deep into the fine wool weave, noticeably clouding the elegant ivory fields and intricate curvilinear floral motifs. Compounding this traffic wear, the textile had sustained direct liquid accidents from pets that left behind unsightly stains and stubborn sub-surface odours that standard domestic vacuums could not neutralise, alongside localized colour bleeding from an improper previous damp-cleaning attempt and distinct, crushed furniture marks where heavy sitting fixtures had flattened the pile down to the backing lines. These combined factors compromised both the aesthetic elegance and material value of the fine textile, creating an immediate need for an advanced, carefully regulated in-plant decontamination and pile restoration process.
Our team executed a highly technical, temperature-controlled immersion wash and dye-stabilisation protocol, starting with an extensive mechanical dry-soil dusting to safely vibrate and extract deeply impacted crystalline grit from the base of the backing before introducing any moisture. Because the rug was prone to dye bleeding, we applied a specialised chemical fixative pre-treatment to lock the unstable vegetable dyes securely in place, paired with an enzyme-rich sanitiser to thoroughly break down crystallised pet urine salts and eliminate subsurface organic odours at their source. The rug was then moved to our wash floor for a gentle submersion bath utilizing low-pH, dye-inhibiting shampoos and soft counter-rotational brushes to suspend the traffic grime, allowing our technicians to carefully steam-condition the compressed areas and lift the crushed, distorted nap back to its original plush height. Finally, after a thorough high-volume, low-pressure sub-surface flush completely rinsed away all loosened residues and cleaning agents, the rug was transferred to our climate-controlled drying tower where the entire surface nap was hand-groomed to its proper directional lay for a beautifully restored, clean, and stable finish.
